ISO 1924-2

Paper and board - Determination of tensile properties

ISO 1924-2 specifies a method for measuring the tensile strength, strain at break and tensile energy absorption of paper and board, using a testing machine operating at a constant rate of elongation (20 mm/min). ISO 1924-2 also specifies equations for calculating the tensile index, the tensile energy absorption index and the modulus of elasticity.

The method is intended for all papers and boards, including papers with a high break deformation at break. The method can also be used for gypsum board paper - and components for corrugated board. The samples are most often 15 mm wide and the clamping length is 180 mm, however 25 mm sample width and other length are also used.

The standard requires the tensile testing machine to be able to measure the tensile force and the elongation while testing. Bent Tram tensile testing machines have an inbuilt system for measuring the elongation of the specimen. This means that mounting an extensometer on the specimen is not needed, and thus making it a lot easier to place the samples.
