ISO 6383-1 – Film and Sheeting: Determination of Tear Resistance (Trouser Tear Method)
ISO 6383-1 specifies a method for determining the tear resistance of plastic films and sheets with a thickness of less than 1 mm, using standard trouser-shaped test specimens. The test uses defined conditions for pretreatment, temperature, humidity, and testing speed.
During the test, the machine pulls the two legs of the trouser-shaped specimen apart in tension and measures the force required to propagate the tear. The resulting tear resistance provides information about the material’s mechanical performance and its suitability for applications where tearing may occur during handling, processing, or use.
Tram tensile testing equipment provides a precise and automated solution for ISO 6383-1 testing. Operators mount specimens easily, and TramQA software automatically records and calculates tear force and related values.
