ISO 1924-2 – Paper and Board: Determination of Tensile Properties

ISO 1924-2 specifies the method for measuring the tensile strength, strain at break, and tensile energy absorption of paper and board using a testing machine operating at a constant rate of elongation (20 mm/min). The standard also defines the equations used to calculate the tensile index, tensile energy absorption index, and the modulus of elasticity.

The method is intended for all types of paper and board, including materials with high elongation at break. It can also be applied to gypsum board paper and components for corrugated board. Typical test specimens are 15 mm wide with a clamping length of 180 mm, although 25 mm wide specimens and alternative lengths may also be used.

The standard requires the tensile testing machine to measure both force and elongation during testing. Tram tensile testing machines feature a built-in system for elongation measurement, eliminating the need for a separate extensometer and making specimen mounting faster and easier.
